Agreed, the wage has to be increased but it's fairly ludicrous to demand R7 000 p/m. :S

Pirates, as a matter of interest, what do assistant trainers rake in on a monthly basis?

IMO demanding a min wage of R7000 is unrealistic
Do they ALL have qualifications?
Who can afford that in this economic climate?
People in the building industry (some with matric) work their butt's off and don't take home a thousand a week
Factory workers pray their jobs are safe and also earns under a thousand
Farmworkers are the real strugglers in this country...what do they get?

I am not against the improvement of their existance but would think that around R5000 a month would be more realistic?
Maybe something else or incentives could be put in place?

Just how i feel, but not being an owner/trainer does not qualify me to comment?
Well then on the other hand what does the deputy president know better?

What a fair salary is debatable. The problem in South Africa is that Government employees earn way to much which put things way out of perception . In my business no one earns less than 5k per month , in the same breath take an employee of Pik It Up for instance , minimum salary there R8K per month , I also as part of my business am privy to doing credit checks therefore see many pay slips and Government employees are unbelievable , a clerk working in a court for instance can earn up to R16k a month , I have seen teachers earning R30k , so where is the balance.

I have no idea what the cost of living is in SA

But ask yourself this question. Could I live on 7k a month and would I be happy with 7k a month taking on an important job, no in fact the most important job in the so called Sport of Kings where the rewards can be vast if the well being of the horse that you look after wins races thus brings in vast amount of money.

The only time you going to realize that R5000 or R7000 is not enough is when you living in that situation. I can say unashamedly that I grew up in a community which was a low income area. The struggle is real but somehow people try the best in the difficult situations to live a better life and I'm glad to say many have succeeded. Once you in the situation and when you get out you saviour every luxury. Owning a horse is a privilege not a necissity so the person who is taking care of it should be afforded a fair salary. Yes he does not have a degree so does the garbage man but without the garbage man you will be living in stink!!!! Interesting table below....

Thank You Naresh I agree totally . Interesting table I note that this was done in Pietermaritzburg , we should also take into account different provinces as JHB is very expensive . It also excludes Rent . Actually scary and food for thought.
