Corporitisation has been helpful to racing in the main but fails the most important test which is to grow the game and it's reach beyond merely a subsidised existence.

This is not the fault of the majority working for operators all over the world but rather the result of the manner in which performance is incentivised.

Until new customer growth becomes a measurement of success and not only increases in turnover we will be subjected to shoddy service and system limitations and unreliability which will only get worse.

Taking over the entire value chain has advantages for the individual party driving the process but offers little for the industry as a whole and most certainly nothing for punters as it reduces competition and choice.

We will just have to accept that all of our whining and complaints will continue to fall on deaf ears whilst an operator performs well outside of racing and whilst the importance of short term performances outweigh longer term racing needs.

These are incompatible objectives that are moving ever further apart.

Well done Garrick & a big up to Interbet... credit where credit is due.

On the flip side of the coin though there are many with stories that did not have a fairytale ending.

Can you bet into a R6 million Pick6 with a bookmaker?

Well ,Saftote can see that and raise it ....for service ,not!.............I have managed to survive with a reasonable % of the P6 ,at Flamingo,so far.....................Tab-online tells me I have no active bets!!!!!
I thought maybe I had somehow forgotten to place the bets(old age and all that) only to see that my balance has been reduced by the cost.................standby for a interesting tussle if I survive the last leg!!!!

(update :Customer care report:the online site is down in respect of all history .........but bets stand)

Yes thanks ....small profit on the day .......it was just so strange to go to your bets and get that message -turned out it was a system glitch .

What is strange that nobody else had placed a bet with Tab-online or would have had the same problem .....don't know if it is just cos its Flamingo or they don't use tab-online!

Well ,3 days later ,and suddenly the gremlin is back ..............all Tote bets reflected as "no active bets" ............again!!!!!
Truly amazing!

(I have just phoned in to check the bets actually exist- have been advised that sometimes they will work and sometimes not ......their advice is to phone and check after placing any bet!....rather defeats the object of on-line betting.)

Garrick wrote: Tigershark - I have just been on the receiving end of an experience which makes interesting reading insofar as service is concerned. And, yes, it does involve a bookmaking business.

On Friday evening I deposited R10k into my Interbet account for a rugby bet I had identified for Saturday morning in the NZ/AUS match.

I was nearly caught out on Saturday morning as the match started earlier than is normally the case in NZ.

To my dismay my account had still not been credited. A somewhat frustrating sequence of events followed which resulted in my missing out on the punt.

I sent a copy transcript of my interaction to Interbet; primarily in the hope that this kind of obstructive service from their online service centre would not be repeated.

I was utterly amazed to receive a call from Barry of Interbet today. He asked me what I had been planning to punt on the match & THEN ADVISED ME THAT MY ACCOUNT WOULD BE CREDITED WITH THE R5K THAT I WOULD HAVE WON. ( Trust me - I was not planning to back Australia).

I was certainly not expecting such a noble gesture; nor had I asked for it. But it does further cement an already cordial relationship that I have with this provider.

I wonder what the response (if any) from Saftote would have been?

Garrick this is PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT from interbet . I had a similar thing occur to me and all I got was an "i'm SORRY "...

Of course it is, Solotrama.

I never suggested anything other than it was an appreciated gesture. I ,too, have had plenty of occasions when I have had to take it on the chin.

You'll usually find that your next big win dims the memory! Lol.
