This judge felt sorry for him from the outset. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth and i hope the state appeals. I read now the defense is not going to appeal. What a joke and he will probably only serve 3 years in prison. I really hope some day the truth comes out....as i am still not convinced of his story

You get 10 years in the US if you steal a car. So the girls life is only worth 6 years, what a joke. So he will serve 3 and then become eligible for parolle

@LSU..."Did he intend to kill the person behind the door, guaranteed, but can we prove that he knew it was Reeva."...dolus eventualis is about intent to kill whoever was behind the door...no need to prove he knew it was R.S.

Shockingly lenient sentence...I think judge is star-struck and got initial judgment wrong and now goes easy on sentencing after judgment rightfully changed to murder...Gerrie Nel will appeal and when it goes to Supreme Court, he will get 12+ years...

I hear you T but if his fear was real, as a person with a distinct disability without his blades, intent could be justified. The dilemma has always been that nothing could be proven either way and is at best based on assumptions, hence the leniency that we don't like. He is the only one that really knows what happened that night and living with it will never be easy whether you have a conscience or not.

Is he a threat to society, probably not
Will he do this again, hard to say definitively, but again probably not.

He will forever carry the tag of shame wherever he goes and woman won't trust him and the public will mostly resent him.

He won't feel welcome in most places that he will visit and he will most likely be forever ruined financially and in terms of his talent which will be all but lost since he will be behind bars during the last few years of prime athlete conditioning.

He might not show remorse but he is a broken human being and will probably be a prime candidate for suicide at some point.

Does he deserve this, definitely, but the whole case was circumstantial as the evidence with regards to intent was rather thin. Did he intend to kill the person behind the door, guaranteed, but can we prove that he knew it was Reeva. It's speculation at best even though it might be 100% assumed from his bad stint as a witness and his gun happy behaviour, its still only an assumption.

Is this light for murder, absolutely, but he is a very unlikely repeat offender and if this was driven by genuine fear, is a very long time to spend in jail.

Right or wrong, justice has been served and I for one will let it rest.

The only sensible response on the thread the states case was weak weren't even able to prove the abusive relationship or fight. 6 years is justifiable for the excessive force. Had it been a white judge there would be cries of bias. The state won't appeal this case as the judge correctly indicated borders very close to cul.hormocide. Regardless to public opinion the sentence can be viewed as lenient but is correct based on the facts before the court.

If this was not Pistorius but a relatively unknown (race does not matter) would we still be saying 6 years is justified? I think not! Problem is that the judge erred in her application of the law first time round and is too stubborn to change her mind. However Pistorius cannot escape the prison of his mind and what he did will get to him at some time. He will be convicted for life in the prison of his mind.

Probably the NPA should now apply just an ounce of the effort in prosecuting Oscar on Jacob Zuma that's worth a little more justifying spending tax payers money.
