But, until punters need for consistent, fair and transparent information is treated as priority, the shrinkage of racing will continue.

The key here is the 'fair and transparent information'..... I cannot understand the dearth of information for the minimum bet punter....Who is without a doubt the lifeblood of racing. Newspaper coverage is anaemic....radio? Well thats a joke

The minimum bet punters do have cheap range smart phones or the punters that earn alot less can have access the information, they just need the sites names where they can get their information from or someone to tell them. In the totes when I'm in Durban every punter is on the Tabgold site, that's it. I keep telling them which other sites to use, some eventually use it others don't. It's their mindset. You don't have to be rich or earn a lot to get the information you need, I'm proof of that, you just need alittle common sense. I'm learning everyday. Guys on here I'm amazed at their acumen on horses and hope to be like some of them one day.

In an ideal world (or first-world countries) I think there is no need for fractional betting; however here in good old SA I think that a 'lot more' punters would just abandon racing for 'cheaper' alternatives like the Lotto or slots, should fractional betting not be available.

For me personally I would not be lured into spending more, so I would probably be taking smaller perms and end up catching a lot less PAs, BPs, JPs and P6.....so my ROI would go down....and how long before life's financial realities force me to give it up

So imo doing away with fractional betting would in time lead to less racing punters and more importantly for the industry, much smaller pools

A bet could easily be designed in a way that requires no fractional betting as can be seen in many contest style offerings.

A strong design would also have a host of important elements and be far more entertaining and punter friendly than the exotic bets at our disposal at this time.

I agree that fractional betting is/was very innovative and should remain ......but would like to see a limit to the fraction as I think that exotics at 1c per line is unrealistically low...................it is surely that level that necessitated doing away with couplings and 1st timer rules!
