Not the easiest card I have ever come across ......young Mr Hewitson let me down last week, but I think he might be in for another good day today ....even the 2.5 kg claim enough to just give the advantage to his rides in competitive handicaps imo

R1: Interesting opener...if only to judge the strength of Detonation's maiden win ...for me I think Connaught Hotel has the stronger form, but I'll just watch this ...Wall of Ice may throw a spanner into the works if improving in his 2nd start this year

R2: I think this is where Hewitson will open his account - Might as Well just caught last time and with the allowance will be hard to beat imo - only danger could be the first timer Legend Seeker, who now has the services of Khumalo

R3: Open looking start to the PA...Just as Frisky gets the allowance, but Shotgun Rider came from too far back last time...not sure who is going to on top, but surely instructions will be to sit a bit handier, which could be tricky from a widish draw...this can open the way for Cosmic Count who has the plum draw, and Querari Viking ....lots of ifs and buts imo

R4: There is collateral form that suggests that Russian Star could have the beating of Aventurine, so at the price RS could be a smart inclusion in the P6....a lot will depend on how good the de Kock filly is...I'm including all 3...the rest seems very moderate

R5: Typical fillies and mares handicap where plenty have chances...again the Woodruff filly appeals to me at the price, and needs inclusion along with the obvious ones like Kalanchoe, Angelic Appeal (gets the allowance, but seems better at the Vaal and over shorter), Gain Ground (not well in at the weight, but should prefer the trip), Miss Rambo and Tip of the Glacier

R6: Getting interesting, for me IF New Fort gets the trip, he will win (again that allowance worth a few lengths over this trip - some very competitive other races and the size of my budget means I'll have to take chance on him....if he does not stay, there are many others to consider, including the obvious Talbec, Detonation and Pyramus as well as the less obvious Racing Socks (well in here on his last effort) and Night Raider (collateral form with Sheet Weaver does suggest not much between and Detonation)

R7: Toughest race on the card......not a lot between many of these...lots will depend on luck in running ...I'm loading up

R8: This is the race that will make or break my day, for me Imperial Gold with the allowance will be hard to beat and I will put my money where my mouth is ....but will take a cover JP including the other obvious contenders

R9: The Smell of Rain has very strong from and will be my 3rd banker in my optimistic P6....would have been more confident had the race been over 1200, but I'm hoping that she will prove good enough to run them down.......not sure why Never Give In is so short, as there is no obvious reason why she should finish in front of both Tapaway and Musical Romance this time...and depending how thing go through the day I may also take a covering double with Miss December

Enjoy B)

There's a serious accident waiting to happen in these work riders races....that race reminded me of dodgem cars so much bumping.....

Very lucky there wasn't a accident in that race.
Some of the riding was very poor.
