You may be right, but interesting that only one scheduled Poly meeting in SA has been abandoned!
This was caused by a problem with a storm water drain at Greyville, which I believe has been attended to!
More significantly, when adverse weather has required a move to Poly, not one of those meetings has been abandoned!!!
I know some owners are unhappy with Poly racing ,but in our country, that schedules only one meeting a day(6 days a week), All Weather Alternatives are imperative for sustained Turnover!

Damn, and I thought an all weather track would have a role in Gauteng .....silly me :woohoo:

OTA , an all weather track broadens the options ..........surely that is not in dispute!

Please Rob,don't give them any ideas.

Poly racing is totally boring,I'd rather we lose meetings and race on turf the rest of the time.

Don't you think that there is a vast difference between PE Poly ,where it is a full sized course, with large fields? ..............I have found nothing boring about that (actually quite profitable)
Greyville Poly is very boring, but that is because they tried to put 2 courses where there is barely room for one,and the Turf course is ruined as well,IMO.
I think we have to separate theory and "bad" practice!!!
I have no doubt that if the old Vaal sand track had been replaced with Poly ,it would have saved a lot of meetings, with full fields.............and,TBH,been far less boring than those stretched out sand races, with frequent form turnarounds of 20/30 lengths!

This is after all more than enough racing now that we race 364 days a year, bar a few lost meetings.

The last thing we need is Jhb having a poly taking 50% of Gauteng's annual meetings.

Gauteng should not ever end up with the GC problems as there would still be 4 perfectly adequate turf tracks (pity it isn't 6 of course) either New or Gosforth would have made great all weather layouts!
Natal on the other hand have a poor turf alternative at Greyville now ,and Scottsville was never ever more than a country course.........................so almost permanent racing on a Poly footpath is definitely boring..........Friday nights I take some exotics and go out to supper ..........the racing is painful to watch, but is it really the surface to blame?
