I know this campaign is about attracting new blood ..

But i truly believe that the best way they can do this is by making racing as attractive as possible to the present racing punter and community as most of us were introduced to racing from family and friends

The reason I opened this thread was because it angers me at how there is a lack of care. Half hearted attempts just make it seem like these guys don't care what they are doing as long as they make an attempt. Agree with LSU largely that there is no measurement of success, hell I don't even think there are goals in this whole campaign. Being a young racing follower (I'm 23), their whole approach to this is completely wrong. They have tried to promote this whole elegant, sophisticated and snobby attitude that is supposedly racing. Looking around my group of friends, not one of them would think that this is something they want to do. It all seems intimidating and too much.

I'm not saying I have the blueprint to ressurecting racing among the younger generation or better said, remodelling the marketing of the game to sustain longevity but to see people completely screw up at jobs that some of us would absolutely love to be doing is just highly frustrating. All people want is to see that you are putting in the effort, not once have I thought that of this campaign.

Final words are that I really hope somebody comes in saves this project because once it fails, the powers that be are going to say that they tried, when in actual fact this has been an excuse of an attempt so far.

I might not have the solution to get more people involved in racing but I would also like to see a mission statement on what is trying to be achieved?
I do however know a lot about productivity and it basically means doing something better today than you did yesterday no matter how well you think you did yesterday.
To do this it is essential to have measurements in place, it is sometimes more difficult to measure indirect employees as opposed to direct employees but everything can be measured.
Let's use racetrack attendance as a simple example, do we know how many people attended a meeting this Sat and next Sat or last year and this year?
What did we put in place or market to make it increase ??
I can waffle on but basically have a plan and share the plan to show we are "in a rush " and as Robyn mentioned there is media out there with a love of the game that are happy to promote and get on board if we can have exposure of the master plan.

Punter gets nothing from all this apart from shrinking pools

I say cut stakes and give more back to the punter!

If racing yards suffer so be it, the punter/ fan get treated like dogs by most of the yards( not all ) anyway but are continually taxed upto 25% .

The old chestnut of no stakes no racing is a very old chestnut , look at the UK there tote is non existent nearly and they run 50 tracks .

No racing ? So what says the 1000's of punters that have already moved to sports betting and other leisure rand activities where they are not treated by contempt by their heroes .

At the end of the day the punter supports racing and there is far too many racing whores that can't swollow and say yum

right, here goes insofar as practical solutions - we can all help and participate by creating a twitter storm.

There will be a small focus on Saturday's Matchem and Diana St at Durbanville - please watch out on Twitter!

Also, please get in on the action as the more tweets from different sources there can be that can be retweeted, the better for 'spread' !

The more we try to build a twitter community, the better for all !

One reason why I have never logged on is because we hardened racegoers are not the target market. If the web site is disappointing for us I hate to think how fragmented it may look for newbies.

Listening to 702 yesterday and the sports bulletin ran a story about Michelle Payne winning the Melbourne cup. Mainstream Media is the only way Racing has a chance. One good piece of news is that this guy Cassper Nyovest looks to be a sellout artist so with all the hype around him I think the crowd will be much better than last year at the Summer Cup

Time for our sport to forget about the crowd and to concentrate on drawing customers. Every big racing event is a sell out nearly every year but the crowd is yet to be convinced about becoming customers.
Racing is without a doubt the worst spectator sport in the world with 1 to 2 minutes of action followed by 35 to 50 minutes of inactivity for the uninitiated and not a whole lot more for experienced players. Even good entertainment in between will never make racing a spectator delight to rival mainstream sport.
Individual races have a great deal of spectator value though if you are a punter or an owner with a runner.
Racing will only succeed in drawing new customers to the game if it can be promoted as a year round activity and not only an occasional or annual attraction.
Racing is loved by loyal supporters who participate which is why we need to actively sell participation and not attendance or the odd bit of exposure.

LSU , I love watching racing at home ( obv ) but get bored to tears when I'm on track , I think the long race days (10 +)should be split into two day festivals like in the UK

And why not two race days of 7 races each on a Fri and Sat for the Met and July?
