Craig, i do not want to split hairs with you but you & GC need to consider the following;
1. How many horses are nominated & accepted for Poly vs Turf racing?
2. How many 2yr old maidens are being raced on the Poly if it is so forgiving?
3. What turf prep runs are being offered to higher rated horses before the main season?
4. What has attendance been at Greyville for the Poly racing, excluding the flea market patrons?
5. Why in the height of summer do we not have one turf track available for weekly meetings?
6. Why have grass gallops at the race courses been stopped?

Craig, i want racing in KZN to flourish but when we do not have Clairwood and we have two turf tracks that are never right then what are we actually doing?

The Poly track was an idea born out of a necessity to race when the rainfall in the past caused meetings to be abandoned. Poly racing now makes up the bulk of our out of season racing...... was this the plan all along???

Morning Neigh, at a quick glance through my program there are 8 races on the turf over 1400/1600m in that time. Obviously probably the same on the poly but I didn't count. On the way to track so just checked for those. I was not sure what your merit rating was though.

People realising that horses prefer to race on a clean fresh surface as they pull up better? ;) :P I think it is just the choice of races. MR 76 1400m or around there they would have been full.

To answer the question in the subject line...maybe 2019 ?? The grass looks beautiful but it is meant for running on...even the slightest amount of rain, wind, sun, etc, etc and the turf is off bounds...surely that cannot be the case or intent...

The Durban July is going to be on Poly one of these years or moved to another venue...how Phumelela would love for the Durban July to be staged in Gauteng ?? The irony of it all...they have been trying to get an event of the stature of the July or Met by pumping tons of money into numerous ventures and through the absence of suitable Turf tracks in KZN, they may just get an event handed to them... :(

IMHO, GC is not under any circumstances going to allow the grass tracks to be in the condition they were in the Champions season. We have an alternate surface to use so use it and lets not have the problem we had the last few years. I want the grass to look like a bowling green for July day which is not easy in these days of climate change and in the middle of winter.

Thanks Pirates, i watched it last night.........

I am surprised by the arrogance as i did not know that GC & Mr Hawkins work on a "what we say goes" strategy neither do i understand why KZN has four tracks when one track is used for 50% of the racing in the province.

I also like the reasoning behind using the Poly track as he sees absolutely no difference between Poly & Grass but unless he has become a horse, trainer or jockey recently i would like to know how he arrived at his opinion? If there is no difference why are the main feature races this season not being run on the POLY track?????????????

Thank you for telling me Mr Hawkins that i must put up with Poly or laughingly tell me that i will wait forever for the right races on grass, noted.

I for one have decided to stop bitching and moaning, i will not buy another horse to race in KZN and wish GC and Mr Hawkins all the best going forward.

By the way it is interesting to note that we are having sprint races over short distances modeled on American quarter horse racing and yet the people setting this up have not even bothered to check if there are quarter horses in South Africa.

I wonder how many people would have supported the POLY track if they knew in advance that this would be the primary track that would be used for 50% of all the racing in KZN. More importantly i would like to see in which communication from GC that this was ever stated prior to the building of this track.

The idea of protecting mediocrity is sickening, if you cant grow grass in the greenest province in the country just put down rubber......... after all the breeders have been breeding horses to race on poly tracks for years.
