But surely if you have given staff off legitimately then you CANNOT expect those people to come to work because of a venue change? I'm sure the staff had already made plans for the holiday - I know the disappointment the owners, trainers Jocks and punters have but sometimes we just have to accept the weather and move on - It would obviously be a different story if the venue was Greyville Turf then you would have no problem - I think the lesson to learn is on Holiday meetings schedule the meeting for Greyville(Fairview) so that you have the Poly alternative should it be needed.

Sometimes ago I did mention that it will b nice to have at leat two race meetings on the same day at least twice a week if one gets abandoned at scots during the day then u still hav the poly for night.
In that way trainers/owners can earn n the operator will still gainit will b a win win situation
If no alternate plans then expect more abandonments

Bottom line, it is cheaper for the operator to abandon a "bread and butter" race meeting than have it continue and even more so if it has to be moved.

That is clearly the crux of the matter. If there was a genuine desire to race then a plan would have been made. If I were an owner with a runner today I would be mightily pissed.

Racing has more excuses than a cheating wife!!
No industry that I am aware of can find so many reasons for "why not".
What kind of brain dead executives did not realize that just an alternative surface is inadequate to save a race meeting.
It seems that the only way to obtain an IQ of over 100 from an operator is to hold a large meeting and take an aggregate.
Local racing is run by clowns/imagine all that money spent to save rain affected meetings and then can't .........lol

Have never seen a meeting canceled at one venue anywhere on the planet and moved to another on the same day

Perhaps a call could have been made late yesterday already?

It will happen soon Bob. Late yesterday pm it still had not really started raining and maybe the forecasts were wrong.

Is it not a public holiday in SAF today or was that yesterday ?
You can't give guys days off then force them to cancel their plans

Yes it is. Gave Greyville staff off yesterday to give them a long weekend.
