Clerk of the course Chris Stickels said: ``I changed the ground to soft, heavy in places this afternoon, but since then it has started raining again.

``The rain band is set to be coming through this evening and overnight with possibly sunshine and showers into Thursday.

``It's an unsettled forecast all the way through to the weekend.''

For me, apart from the slush, all horses love the soft. I'm sure I would if I was a horse..

This morning I saw on a Citizen newspaper poster "French horse for Ascot". Who's the French horse?

Champion Stakes

FREE EAGLE: a lightly raced 3yo; was easy and impressive when annihilating the field in his last start; pilot Pat Smullen says he is the best horse he has ridden; the racing media says gaffer Dermot Weld will first inspect the course this morning (Weld says the horse prefers firm going but I think that is crap); 11/8 for Cirrus is very very expensive, 3/1 for FREE EAGLE is a bargain, as one clansman say "load your cannon".
