When you consider keeping a horse in training for a year that might not even earn a cheque costs more than a box at the Big T, is it really that expensive. This is not a cheap game we are involved and you pay a little extra for the best. If it is invoiced through a company you can claim it as an expense so there is already a 28% saving (assuming it is a profitable company).

Also had the pleasure of being invited by Dave and Oscar to their box and it is really first class.

Nickname I understood that the question may ruffle feathers that is why I said with respect. To me it does not make financial sense so unless you put it through your business or there is a possible tax advantage I can only say in my opinion, it can only be an elitist/ego thing. Again I say this with no malicious intent.

As for the haters out there, again let me say I am far more comfortable at my local tatts or the comfort of my home when racing so please do not misunderstand why I asked the question. I have not been to the race course in many years in fact the last time I was on course was at Germiston so work that one out it is not difficult.

Over the air, next time Oscar or Dave has a function at the big T, hope for an invite bud.
I have been in that box a few times with Oscar and Dave, Zoro, and as always - a good time was had by all.

If u haven't been racing on course for at least 10 years now, it's time u paid a visit especially if u are invited into a private box.

Bob maybe I need to thicken my skin but some of the comments have been so over the top I don't know what other term to use. To be honest when I started posting here one of my mates who also reads the site told me it would only be a matter of time before I was attacked. Sadly it seems he was right.

Elvis I have absolutely no doubt that racing in a private box is first class. What people are not understanding is my question was really just about the value of having the privilege of owning a box. Let me put it another way, 60 grand at Newmarket I could perhaps understand but not at Turffontein.

I looked into renting a box at Musselburgh for when dave was over at the New Years ( they were sold out )

Anyway the cost per person with a buffet thrown in was £120 each for one day now that's R2000+ per person for one meeting

Bob that's what I paid for a bacon and haggis roll and glass of champagne

On the other hand Clare does us the best chicken pie ever, we get one for the guests and one for Zoro every time we race.

when i say £120 each there was a minimum cost of 10 heads for a box so the cheapest box would be £1200 per meeting or over R20 000
