Makes sense. However, I will question why so many noms over wrong course/distance etc.
Basically though, the only courses being developed or left, as such, appear to be very draw biased. This will come back to haunt us all in the long term.
Owners are not happy with horses standing in their stables instead of racing...... nor are they happy with fewer competitive opportunities and the resultant poor runs from wrong fields or bad draws.
Ultimately racing is their hobby. Times are tough. Owners will end up cutting down.... especially if they don't see value.

We chatted about paying for noms in our committee meeting and decided that the only people it would hurt would be the small owner. It would make no difference to the big owners with millions/billions. Their trainer would not nominate any less horses.

would also say a lot of the same type of races are programmed very close together or on the same day and horses haven't recovered in time for them..next sunday there are 3 plate races with very few entries in fact the one has 23 but around 19 of them are from only 2 yards..

This is a question, a thought. I ask Craig to answer. Pirates may tell me to get lost. Not sure how he would feel about this.
Why is a person like Pirates not on the programming Committee in KZN ? I read Pirates posts and he has all the facts and figures at hand. He is on top of the whole issue. Here is a non Trainer who knows a hell of a lot more than most Trainers on the subject of programming. Further, Pirates is and has been a successful Punter for many years. He would also want the maximum turnovers for maximum dividends. Surely he would be worth a decent, proper offer, to come on board ?
Ultimately, Racing must be an obsession to the decision makers, it must be their whole life, their passion, their everything. These are the people we should be courting, paying top dollar to find. Or am I wrong ?
Who is on your programming Committee ? Are only Trainers allowed ?

I know this is for Craig to answer but to be honest, just before I read this post,
I thought about how Pirates is one of the most knowledgeable guys on ABC
As you say,he seems to know just about everything about racing
I thought i must follow him more often when he posts selections as well
I am sure that if i had half his knowledge I would never have to work
Surely it would be a great advantage having him on board

I have always thought that Pirates would make a valuable contribution towards racing if he deciding to roll his sleeves back up and get involved. Solid marketing experience and untold knowledge when it comes to racing but would he, even if offered the job?
I would back him to get the following right in Natal racing;
1. Race programming
2. Marketing racing & betting
3. Upgrading punting outlets
4. Keeing punters interested & programming carry over pools
5. Race overviews & trainers comments
It would take HW 24 months i predict to turn things around with the right team.

thanks for the kind words but I stick by my thoughts about the current board and the manner in which gold circle operates so any involvement from my side is hardly ever likely to happen..

We have had a horse nominated 10 times in the last month and of those 3 races have had a decent draw 10 ot less in the nomination stage but has not run very frustrating. Why nominate if you have obviously no intention of running
