A Very scary thought indeed, I just note how the same big names own anything and everything with a pedigree, look at the PE and Kimberley cards, they are full of wasted money. Aren't these also the same investors currently trying to corner and monopolize the bloodstock sale markets ?.....and, as you all correctly observe, Louie the King comes and wins the triple crown costing R 55 K, SA Nursery winner costs R 10 k, Legislate wins the Derby, Daily News and prestigious July costing R 100 k, Beach Beauty the champion mare cost less than R 100 k, Along Came Polly wins 2 Group 1 races and cost less than R 100 k, Via Africa the champion sprinter of the year was a homebred and Variety Club, he's also a homebred ???......:-).....the list is endless.

The fun, fascination and mystery of racing.....is to find a champion and to make money out of it....one cant buy the game.

My final parting thought......how long will people want to invest millions to win thousands ??...Just do a simple arithmetic exercise on what it costs to buy and keep horses and compare that to the available stakes pot.....its ludicrous, and that's what eventually proves to be the great leveler.

Somebody commented recently on an owner that came into the game with R 5 Bar.....bought 70 horses and found that not only could he not pay for all the horses he bought with that kind of money, but that he also not afford to keep the horse for 3 months before collapsing into a heap...penniless.

Ibetu, isnt that the allure of racing ? I believe there are very astute horsemen out there that can help when purchasing a horse for the first time owner.
The sales are a very allien enviroment, even for me, with a lot of smoke and mirrors happening where the novice has no idea of dealings.
Help is available.
Let the main players carry on and do their thing, what ever that may be ! Tax reliefs are also a huge factor with the bigger owners.
The most amazing feeling in the world to have your horse win a race !
You have to work within your budget and be made aware of all the costs involved before entering into ownership. It doesnt have to cost bombs.
Yes, what you said is true, there are plenty good horses available to us plebbs for reasonable prices.

Good one Mark..I saw an ad re Racing is a Rush..on 323 of course..where everybody says the same thing..they need new people to come to the races! So the only way they gonna do that is to advertise..SABC 1,2 and 3 and MNet 101 203..regularly in the correct time slots with a good ad..do they have the budget for that..my guess is they have ZERO budget for that, so then in my book I love the idea, I like the guys talking however without the advertising it will not work..put this in your safe and we take it out in 3 years time?
