Hibs, I am still thinking about how to structure it. There is no doubt in my mind that they are hell bent on getting the 6 points back, which we forced them to remove. In so doing, they are killing the consistent ones.
This obsession of theirs is just teaching us to give horses runs. Under this mindset of theirs, we will either have to go for the win or run poorly, in order for the horses to stay competitive. The Trainers and horses which are benefitting at present are the ones which run as often as possible, as poorly as possible. The good, consistent and reliable ones are being punished severely.
And that is bad for Racing.

MR is the only way - BUT the way that MR is applied in SA needs improvement (tu)

Frodo 100% correct. The only relief for the majority is through punishing the good and consistent. This is the mindset. This is how they apply MR. I have some really good examples, which show the mindset. Using same MR and same principles and same drag effect calculations, the proper application will result in a balance.
There is no handicapping going on, only the selection of the line horse.... which they carefully choose, in order to punish those in front of the line horse.
Horses do not come down nearly fast enough, but shoot up, go through the divisions rapidly, sometimes without winning a race.

@lg.... what about lumping precocious juveniles with ratings applied along the same line as older horses? This cannot be correct in my mind as a juvenile winning a grade 1 against juveniles should not and cannot be assesed the same. That horse is then screwed for 18 months until dropping to a realistic MR as an older horse. What about the lack of confidence to the horse, and the potential for sourness....

Good win by Featherfoot and good for a small yard too. Also, well placed by Devin. You won't believe that 3 Trainers standing around me in weighing room after the race, were agreed that Devin Little had stuffed up the rating of Featherfoot now.... They weren't even aware of the penalty limit in plate races.... No wonder progress is slow and difficult to achieve in racing....

So is it the handicapper's fault that the trainers don't know their business ?
