i don't think United can compete and buy well established players, firstly it would be too costly and these players will be over priced.
maybe go in for one or two quality players and pay 20 - 45 million for both ( kroos and dundagun ) and use this world cup to identify some talented defenders and go in early to grab them on the cheap.
the last world Cup, the Nigeria goalie made messi look ordinary and that's the type of games we going to find warriors for our defense. the talent is there, its just the process of identifying the next exciting left back, wingers etc.

Co-incidentally, I am reading a report that has been released in the last 20 minutes.
In a nushell it says that United have entered negotiations/ talks with SPORTSTOTAL, the company that looks after the affairs of Kroos and Reus.
United has made an offer of 75 million to land both players. In the past few days this was only speculation but now it seems that an OFFER has been made.

If Kroos and Reus are for sale and Man United put in an offer then the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern will put in counter offers and these players will want Champions League football and at this stage it looks highly unlikely that they will get it at Man United.

The Times and The Telegraph are more to the truth and even Gregbucks favourite rag The Sun is a better read where football is concerned.

Man United are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign German international pair Marco Reus and Toni Kroos according to Football Direct News.

The Old Trafford side have apparently held talks with SportsTotal, the agency that represents both players, as they seek to bring in the Bundesliga duo.

Bayern Munich midfielder Kroos is in lengthy contractual negotiations with his Allianz Arena employers, keen to see his wages significantly increased so that he can be up with the club’s top earners, a request that appears to have met with a muted response from the Bavarian club.

David Moyes is keen to bring in the 24 year old midfielder, who has been in excellent form this season.

The Man United manager also wants to bring in Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus to help boost his options in the final third.

Reus has been a massive success since moving to Borussia Dortmund, scoring 30 goals and providing 20 assists in 78 appearances, this despite the club’s fall from Bundesliga title contenders to also-rans.

Dortmund are now some 20 points off Bayern Munich and were lucky to scrape through to the last 16 of the Champions League and having seen Mario Gotze leave for the Allianz Arena, and goal machine Robert Lewandowski set to follow suit, Reus could be tempted by a move to Man United.

This source values the pair at a combined £70m.
Give everything but up!
