Ran the same day c&d as Checkiti and would have beaten Checkiti giving him 2.5kg's ... (:D ... so may make for a good double... BUT... that also detracts a bit from Checkitti's run...

As a novice I really find it childish and completly ridiculus to see that when a member posts a selection some wise simply comments that the selection isn't as good as indicated and he would be as bullish. No reasons no alternatives. Just a simply put down. Sorry to say but it does look like a trend on the web site. A lot off gossip, skinner, boasting and no real hoirse racing ifo from so called "I know it all". Some members really put there heart and soul into it on a big day this thread some be alive with hot debates on selections and formlines and analysis not what goes on here am sorry

Dashing, in Race 2 add in Lord Rose. Campbell seldom raids and is his only runner for the day. Not gr8 form but currently 14/1.

It is only that Englander who never offers selections...continuously puts me down and makes me very depressed :P

Time to be bold or look foolish later, my fancies are :-

R1) One Man's Dream
R2) What A Boytjie
R3) Close The Gap
R4) Chekilli (make or break bet to opening other alternatives going forward)
R5) Mercurial Brave
R6) Arcetri Pink
R7) Yorker
R8) Athina
R9) Heart Of A Lion
R10) Sharp Design
R11) Counter Ridge
R12) Well, I'm either clean out at this stage or hopefully made some money, hopefully the latter.

The Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile and four other feature races will be run at Turffontein on Saturday and the Racing Express team spoke to the trainer’s available to get their views on their runners.

SEAN TARRY

Whiteline Fever (Charity Mile) is very well. He needed his first run back and he’s bound to have come on. He’s not nominated for the Summer Cup so this is his mission. I don’t believe much in the “second-run-after-a-layoff” syndrome. If you’re prepared for the run then it does not make a difference. As far as the weights are concerned you can ever be excited about a top weight in a handicap but he ran a head second last year behind Mujaarib and a short-second to Slumdomillionaire in the Horse Chestnut. He’s is a hard knocker. I find it hard to believe Tiger’s Retreat Charity Mile 1st reserve) did not make the final field. I thought I handled him well to get him in and to show his rating. He could not have achieved worse than a 108 rating when he ran behind Wylie Hall but the handicappers chose to ignore it. I make him with a horse with a realistic chance and they denied the public the chance punting on a 100-1 shot with decent place prospects. I feel Enchanted Silk (Ready To Run Cup) is going to give a good account of herself. She was beaten in a strong field last time. She’s an outsider but is not without a prayer. For The Lads (Starling Stakes) has a wide draw and is giving away a lot of weight. She’s come on since her last run. She’s not a sprinter and was beaten six lengths needing the run. Elusive Spirit has a bit of class and I think she will run a nice sort of race. GShe’s got a future and I expect her to finish in the top half of the field. Willow Magic (Graham Beck Stakes) is giving away quite a bit of weight. He needed the race badly last time and I think he is a big runner. I’m not sure what we will do with him after this. This race is a stepping stone and afterwards we will know which we way to go. I’m not sure if he will get 1600m at Turffontein. The Cape Guineas is on his programme but we will know a lot more about him after the race.

GEOFF WOODRUFF

Tellina (Charity Mile) is fit. He has had three good solid gallops at home. He’s sound and won’t be in need of the run. We are aiming at the Summer Cup with him but I would be happy to see a good run here and a bigger one in the Summer Cup. He was out of his ground in the Derby and ran on strongly so I’m not worried about 2000m. I think he is a better horse now. From his bad draw he will be dropped out and be allowed to run on. I will leave it entirely up to Robbie (Fradd). Yorker has been gelded and has turned in a couple of very fine gallops. From a good draw I make him a serious runner. We also have a good rider in Anton Marcus. I’m not worried about the 0.5kg overweight he will be putting up. He is a very big horse and that’s a galloping weight for him. Yorker’s pedigree suggests 1600m is his best distance but he has a lot of class and might burgle 2000m if he is held up. His best run ever in my view was his 1700m win at the Vaal. On that run another 300m will not be a problem. Killua Castle is 0.5kg under sufferance but they couldn’t push him up on the Pinnacle Stakes win and I thought the handicappers were lenient on him for his handicap win. He will jump from No 1 draw and has a talented young rider in Richard Fourie. I don’t want him to lead but he can use the draw to be handy. Richard is a small, vigorous rider and I think he is ideal for the horse. Overall this is a very strong field, probably the best Charity Mile field we’ve seen. Arcetri Pink (Ready To Run Cup) is a a classy filly and I’m very pleased with her progress. She has placed in a Grade 1 race over1400m against fillies and if held up she should get the trip. If she settles, she will see it out. She has a terrific burst of speed got to carry her into the lead at the right time. Sprinting Queen (Starling Stakes) is lightly raced, but a talented filly who has matured nicely as a three-year-old. We had an issue with her pulling so we tried different bridles and Robbie (Fradd) feels we have the right equipment know. She has a good draw and I make her a nice outsider at the price. She is feature-race material from the work we’ve seen of her. Principled Man (Graham Beck Stakes) is a nice horse. I’m not sure if he quite saw out the 100m at Greyvlle. He has won over this course and distance already but never seems to get a good draw. But he is fit and had a nice gallop on Saturday. It’s a real bit of luck for Shadow Ofhis Smile to get No 1 draw. He’s very, very talented but I hope lack of experience doesn’t find him out. He’s a very useful sort and I would love to see him run well, and I think he will. You just want to see them fulfil their promise. If you think he’s a Classic horse he’s got to be able to race in Classic company. River Trip (Race 4) I always thought was my best three-year-old. Unfortunately he had breathing problems but he’s had a wind op and he’s come back well. He’s a nice, pacey horse and I think he will be there.

ORMOND FERRARIS

Cherry On The Top (Charity Mile) is fine. I’ve had no problems with her preparation. We are going for the Summer Cup but as far as this race is concerned I believe if you can, you must win. She can’t get very much more of a penalty if she wins this race. I would say she’s come along since her last run. She hadn’t raced for four months and the going was so hard I did not want to give her a grass gallop. The going is great and she has a good draw. We will position her and hope she will kick when asked. Sharp Design (Golden Loom) likes to move over to inside a bit. He’s drawn towards the inside so that’s okay. He should have come on well from his comeback win. The sting is out of the ground and he will be suited to the going.

MIKE DE KOCK

Link Man (Charity Mile) is not particularly well rated. In fact, he has not run within five pounds of his rating in last six starts. He has a monumental task. Umgiyo (Ready To Run Cup) is a really smart horse but he’s more a Classic type than a 1400m runner. Off that draw we will need luck and wings. A lot of things will need to go our way. I’m putting on blinkers to try and make him show more interest early on. Duly Ordained needed the last run. He is a really smart horse but will need 2000m to 2400m. For this kind of prize money we will take our chances. Celtic Legend is distance suited. I would have loved to get a run under the belt but I’m expecting her to run well. Copiapo (Starling Stakes) is a filly with ability but we have a big problem with draw. Her female line indicates she will get the trip. Glenshee is not a bad filly. She’s better than her rating and should see out 1400m. Gone Baby Gone (Graham Beck Stakes) should run well. He wants further but I think he has ability. Whistle Stop is a horse we like and I think he’s going places. He’s drawn No 12 and will have to come from behind. Desert Sheik (Golden Loom) would be better over a little further but the soft ground will slow it up a bit.

MICHAEL AZZIE

Potala Palace (Charity Mile) is in very good shape and we’re over the moon as he is moving better than ever. Given his two operations, he sometimes struggles post- race, but this is the soundest we can have him. Belle Coco (Starling Stakes) is unfortunately drawn in the bush but she is a nice filly. I rate Athina as a big runner. Dover Beach (Ready To Run Cup) is a runner after an impressive final gallop. She got a bit big on me so you can ignore her last two runs. Since then has tightened up well.

GAVIN VAN ZYL

It’s a pity Moon of Rangoon (Charity Mile) drew wide because 1600m is a better distance. Realistically, the back end of Quartets is best we can hope for as this is a very strong field. I’m happy with Heart Of A Lion (Graham Beck Stakes) after a nice comeback sprint. This distance is still a touch short. Despite that concern we expect him to be in the first three.

JOE SOMA

Wagner has matured and the preparation has gone very well. This is a bit short as we’re gearing up for the Summer Cup again. He is clearly better with blinkers but this is a seriously strong race with eight Grade 1 wins among the field. He could end up, say, three lengths off them at the finish. Athina (Starling Stakes) continues to improve and has enjoyed an exceptional prep. She is very well and if better drawn I would be supremely confident about her chances.

YVETTE BREMNER

Celtic Fire (Charity Mile) is putting in honest work and is much better going right handed. We thought as there is so little to choose between him and Blaze of Fire, who has proved competitive in major centres, it is worth taking a chance with Celtic Fire at a high level as well. Copper Parade (Golden Loom) tends to get sick in Cape Town, so we thought we would rather try our luck in Jozi. Hard to assess his chances against the fast Gauteng sprinters, but Muzi (Yeni) reckons it best to follow off the speed and then kick on.

ALEC LAIRD

Bouclette Top (Graham Beck Stakes) will try beat the second run after a rest syndrome by keeping him at the same trip. He has come on since that comeback run, making good improvement. His work is good, so he must have a winning chance.

LUCKY HOUDALAKIS

Sarasota, Jenny Green and Captain’s Delight (Starling Stakes) are all are coming off easy maiden wins. This will be a test to see if they can mix it with the big ones. Based on how they shape, I can then plan the way forward. Park Ridge is probably the best of all my runners, let’s hope she can get into the race so we can see how she fares. Artic Route (Ready To Run Cup) is shaping up well. Dangers? Well Umgiyo really caught my eye and looks special the way he quickened up recently – now that’s a racehorse!

TYRONE ZACKEY

Judicial (Ready To Run Cup) is just a natural. He is such a nice horse, I just love him. My only problem is the distance. He is a strong horse and you have to ride him. I can’t get him any better and having Piere Strydom up is a plus. If we don’t get bumped or hampered I make him a big runner. He’s shown that he is better over 1600m up so we will be aiming him at the Dingaans. I hope he comes at them at the end.

ST JOHN GRAY

At the weights Glorious Moment (Charity Mile) has the beating of the current favourite Wylie Hall so he should go close, providing of course that he jumps on terms. We have tried hard to get him to jump well. He makes it hard for himself by being slowly away and that could be the difference between winning and losing.

JOHAN JANSE VAN VUUREN

Winter Star (Ready To Run Cup) was unfortunately coughing two weeks ago so I am unsure how fit she will be. I am happy with her progress since then. She is a good filly and I’m hoping she runs well.

DAVID NIEUWENHUIZEN

We’ve got the right jockey (Piere Strydom) for Virgo’s Babe and are expecting a big race from this filly. Crown Mine (Graham Beck Stakes) somehow managed to be left out and is a reserve runner. I am very unhappy about this as he has a higher merit rating than others who are running. I feel the handicappers have done me a disservice by not having Crown Mine as a definite runner as one should ignore his turf runs as he had reasons for them. He could run a big race if allowed to run as he has been recently gelded.

CORNE SPIES

War Horse (Charity Mile) has cracked a good draw and is nicely weighted so he should run a big race.
The best horse doesn't always win the race.

Hi all

1) I do respect Chekilli and he has not put a foot wrong, but must mention that Negev is very well. This is our last of a 3 race prep plan for the Ipi Tombe. We have worked a bit on refreshing her turn of foot. She is very sharp at home right now.
2)One Man's Dream - first run for us and has been gelded. He may need it slightly, but we like his work.
3)De Var Hyt- our little warrior - if he behaves in stalls under lights, jumps on terms, he is a definite runner, can make your trifectas/quartets pay a bit.
