I would have won close to 9k for a R50 outlay on Tuesdays P6.Yesterday another 4k if Anthonys horse placed yesterday. Its not like I'm crying like a baby but since Tuesday I'm not myself. And not that the win was gonna change my lifestyle .I cannot look at a card longer then a few minutes.I am moody and behaving erratically.
Here is what I am gonna do today.Never did such a valueless bet ever before but with my meagre balance I'm gonna place Rocky Stallone in the last.Just to feel better.

How I would describe it too..........often wrong and take it as part of the risk but feel "hard done by" if it is obvious that the horse is just not given the chance to compete!

Felt sick when PJ ran 2nd to Igugu.....sick to the pit of my stomach.
Only because of the sheer volume of money involved for me, not because of the fact that I thought I should have won

I lost 7 grand, I think it was the early 80's when I got a "put your house on, this one can't lose" tip on Jungle Rock. He came in 7th behind Model Man. It felt like death in the family!!
I don't punt now, only small July bets with the family, just to have a interest.
I do play Hollybucks. Finding that 50/1 or higher outsider gives great pleasure.

i am a compulsive gambler, when I lose I try to win back and lose more, when I win I want to win more and then also lose everything,
.
was playing for 40 years, was one of the bigger punters, P took me on trips to the July and Dubai etc, but on the 20th Sept 2012 my wife walked out because of my problem, on that day i stopped gambling, tried to get her back but she got remarried the other day.
but I have not struck a bet since then promised myself, my kids and new girlfriend would never punt again
i still watch the races ( replays) sometimes or on big meetings i will just watch the races
also did not post on ABC for a long time ( not that anybody missed me but any how
) but i feel i can trust myself more now, in the beginning i did not watch any tellytrack or post but I am ok now ( I think)
the great thing is that my life is not controlled by the start of the first race, no more decisions on what to play, checking betting, scratchings, depression when you lose all your money, or worry where to get money to try and win back what you lose'
I now spend more time with the family and on my business
sometimes when i struggle financially I think that maybe i can try and punt for money but so far i have resisted it and will, do not want to disappoint myself, my kids and new girlfriend
thank you for the chance to share my experience with you wanted to post about it but never did but this thread gave me the opportunity

James if you are serious about giving up the first thing you should do is block yourself from this site - Block 239 from your dstv - It's like an alcoholic spending his day in the bar and drinking coke - one day the urge will catch you and you'll be back in the hole

James here's some bells, brave of you to share your story!
I quit punting for a whole year when mythical flight lost his first race after a straight seven ...cos I felt sick that day

Some of you have been so kind as to share your gambling experiences, I thought I'd share mine. Luckily I have always played small. So I can never say I've lost a lot, or for that matter won a lot. I've always figured if I can't win small money first, I'll never be able to win big money later. It has been incredibly frustrating to try and beat this game, because that is what it is for me seeing I'm playing with peanuts. Frustrating because I never get completely wiped out, or win frequently enough. I'm either a little up, or a little down. Sometimes I've wished that I would get wiped out and then I'd know, it's just like the casino tables, the odds are against me, so don't be a fool and just give it up. I know there are professional horse players who do well, but I wish I did not know this, because I've reasoned that if they found a way, I can find a way. When one system stops working I try another, it's a continuous rotation of systems and lack of discipline on my part. I can't help myself and I don't know why, it's purely psychological. I have not lost money playing the GG's, but I have lost lots of time I could have spend better. I've have spent countless hours looking for that ever elusive system or staking plan when I could have spent my time more productively. I have read numerous books on this stuff, surfed the web for hidden gems. I remember when I couldn't miss the first race on tellycrap on a hot Sunday instead of going down to the beach with my family. Or when I'm with a potential business prospect and I'm rushing the meeting so that I can keep on eye on the gg's. Crazy when I think of it now. There have been some positives out of this experience. One is this forum. Who knew that there were people just like me out there! I've enjoy the humor and the honesty this site provides. Horse racing is a world where sometimes dreams do come true. Oh well, back to work and thinking of my next system. The madness continues.....
