I don't think it boils down to financial need at the end of the day.. if you retired at 45 what would you do all day for the rest of your life? Also I think a jock surely has enough Owner contacts/supporters when starting a yard up, than an assistant who has had a more limited exposure to owners?

basil marcus is retire so is not consider.
gavin van zyl is best of the rest named in my opinion he is better trainer than jockey. a top 10 at best never champion a lot of people dont like his riding style.
lucky houdalakis - very average jockey. he dont have the best nerves. not a top 20 nevermind top 10 jockey. much better trainer.
dickie mackaskill - poor jockey not the top 40 nevermind top 10. who now what he do as trainer it dont have to be much if compare with being jockey.
