Guys please look at the scenario when an apprentice jockey rides a horse and claims 4kg allowance it gives the horse a chance even though an inexperienced kid is riding it. When a fully fledged grown up jockey finds a way to get the weights back before weighning in ( as Gavin Howes was found guilty of hiding the weights in the tunnel between the parade ring and the jockey room and then collecting them after the race and weighing in at the correct weight) So whatever amount of weight they can take off the back it makes the horse that much more of a good thing as it is equivalent to racing a few divisions lower.
Why scales are not situated where the jockeys dismount like Clairwood i will never know as weight is one of the biggest factors in racing, take away the temptation of cheating.

Big T, I can assure that Grant 'From No Church' did not try and cheat! It was an honest mistake and now has to pay the price. Time between races are limited (from the time you dismount your last ride to the time you weigh out for your next) Sometimes a jockey gets on a scale a pound heavy or a pound light and therefor has to adjust the lead in his lead bag. This means jumping off the scale as theres a que behind waiting to weigh out and doing it next to the scale, its possible Grant forgot to replace his lead bag back on his saddle before passing it on to the trainer. Once you weigh out its back into the jockey room to change colours and replace your colour cap, and have a final look at the computaform. Grants a human being and mistakes happen. Like Chip says many a time saddles have been sent out without stirrup irons, girths, wrong number etc etc. If he was stupid enough to weigh out and drop the weight, where was he gonna recover the weight after the race? Spare a thought for the young man, his got the job with Glen Kotzen and now faces a 8 week suspension in the middle of the Cape Season.
