Durban - Police were preventing DA leader Helen Zille and her entourage from approaching President Jacob Zuma's homestead in Nkandla on Sunday morning.

About 700m from where the Democratic Alliance was stopped, police in riot gear were trying to prevent a group of ANC supporters from advancing. Officers formed a human chain across the road, outside Zuma's residence, in the village of KwaNxamalala. Two water cannons and several armoured Nyala vehicles were parked nearby.

The song Awulethu Mshini Wami (Bring me my machine gun) was blaring from a sound system. Some people carried placards reading: "Stop attacking Zuma".

Eight people lay down in the road and refused to move when police asked them to. ANC supporters spilled out of several buses that arrived earlier in the morning.

A police helicopter was in the air and officers were stopping vehicles heading in the direction of Zuma's compound, checking licences and identities.

The Democratic Alliance intended visiting Zuma's private residence, where an upgrade, reportedly costing R200m, was in progress. Zille and DA officials intended inspecting roads around the property and would try to enter the compound.

The African National Congress and its allies have criticised the move. On Saturday the SA Communist Party said the planned inspection was part of a racist right-wing agenda.

On Friday the African National Congress warned the DA could receive a welcoming similar to the stone-throwing that erupted in May when the opposition party tried to march to the Congress of SA Trade Unions' headquarters in Johannesburg.

Something needs to be done to stop this rot and I do not have the answers. A country with so much of potential on a slippery slope to self destruction.

We are stuck with Zuma and his merry bunch of overpaid and underworked idiots...and a gullible, uneducated voting majority.

A message to Angie, our totally clueless, minister of very basic education. Maybe Zuma realized, that an educated nation will see through his facade, so he appoints an idiot to lower the standard of of education.

I had the mispleasure of seeing you totally lost and clueless, at the 2010 world cup opening game, and a colleague of mine, a black lady by the way with 10 times more mental ability than you, direct and guide you to where you should be.

A question to you,....what credentials did you have to be appointed to totally screw up the future education of this country

Update on Zumaville....

Johannesburg - A call by the DA for a parliamentary debate on President Jacob Zuma's private residence in Nkandla is frivolous, the office of ANC chief whip Mathole Motshekga said on Wednesday.

"The essence of a debate in Parliament is to enlighten the public with the information on the subject of debate, and provide guidance on the matter under contest," his office said in a statement.

"It is unfortunate that the DA's interpretation and understanding of parliamentary debates seem to be inspired by a desire for grandstanding and politicking."

On Sunday, Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille led a delegation to Zuma's residence in KwaZulu-Natal, but was stopped by several hundred African National Congress supporters.

Police also refused permission for Zille to proceed along the road to the residence, citing safety reasons.

On Tuesday, opposition MPs discussed the issue in the National Assembly.

DA MP Debbie Schafer said the fact that ANC leaders did not condemn the actions of its members, who prevented Zille from inspecting Nkandla, was "shameful".

"We know Helen Zille is scary, but what threat did she pose to the security of the president?" said Schafer.

Motshekga's office said Zuma and relevant ministers had "comprehensively" responded to questions on the R200m upgrade to Zuma's home from opposition parties.

"There is nothing the debate would achieve that has not already been attained through the above-mentioned parliamentary oversight mechanisms."

It said it was appalled at Zille's "obtrusive and completely opportunistic" visit to Nkandla.

"For all intents and purposes, the DA delegation's visit to Nkandla... was clearly a provocative act, intent on garnering publicity and an incitement of violence.

"Such acts are reminiscent of the apartheid-style way of reducing the humanity of black people to nothingness, and show its hand in the way the DA perceives the highest office of the land."

A family of thieves....??

..........................................................................................................................................................

Cape Town - President Jacob Zuma said on Thursday he felt aggrieved by reports around his house in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, telling MPs: "It has not been built by government."

"All the buildings and every room we use in that residence was built by ourselves as family, and not by government," he said, responding to a question in the National Assembly.

A clearly upset Zuma said he was "aggrieved" by media reports that government had paid more than R200m for his home.

"On TV, they showed the house that I paid for. And they lie that it has been built by government. It has not been built by government.

"I have an opportunity today to explain this. Because my name is being used wrongly. My family is being undermined. Even by Honourable Members, who don't ask... what actually happened. And I feel very aggrieved, I must tell you for the first time."

Referring to a Democratic Alliance march on his Nkandla home earlier this month, led by party leader Helen Zille, the president said he took exception to this.

"You... have leaders of political parties - who don't know whether they're provincial or national - making trips to come and photograph my house.

"And making a laughing stock of my family. I take exception to this."

Zuma said the only money spent by government on his home were for security features, including fencing, bullet-proof windows and a bunker.

"I was advised that the security upgrades were... necessary in terms of the National Key Points Act," he said.

Zuma said he had hired contractors to build extensions to his Nkandla residence. The work had started, but on his becoming president he was told certain security features needed to be incorporated.

He also drew a distinction between work he had authorised, and construction work outside the perimeter of his residence.

"Any other construction undertaken by government outside the perimeter of my home, such as the accommodation for government security personnel, are not part of my residence," he said.

Zuma must be respected...
Durban - President Jacob Zuma needs to be respected as the leader of South Africa, the eThekwini ANC said on Saturday.

"We cannot allow a sitting president to be insulted," eThekwini ANC chairperson Sibongiseni Dhlomo said.

He was speaking at a regional general council held at the Durban University of Technology’s ML Sultan Campus.

Dhlomo condemned the Democratic Alliance's visit to Zuma's private home in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal.

"It can only be a white madam [DA leader Helen Zille] that calls the residence of a president a compound," Dhlomo said.

He also criticised the DA and other opposition parties for wanting to pass a vote of no confidence in Zuma.

"In 2009 the people of South Africa gave the ANC power to govern, they [opposition parties] lost the election. We cannot allow losers to come back through the back door," Dhlomo said.

Second term

Hundreds of delegates would name their preferred candidates for the party's top six positions ahead of ANC's national elective conference in Mangaung in December.

Earlier eThekwini region secretary Bheki Ntshangase said branches were all behind Zuma for a second term.

Hundreds of ANC delegates wore yellow and green T-shirts bearing the face of Zuma and carrying the words "100% Zuma".

The region is the African National Congress' biggest, with over 100 branches and more than 90 000 members.

KwaZulu-Natal is also Zuma's home province.

@Haupie, that article you posted is trash. Sorry to be rude, but there's no other word for it. Use your own brain and don't believe such rubbish. There's nothing wrong with Black people's IQs. I teach them and I know.

That's why I hold them responsible for their decisions, choices and actions, including non-actions. If they were stupid by birth I could not reasonably do this. But they are as bright as I am and some of them are brighter.

It distresses me to see my students run after fakes like Malema (and make no mistake, he is mega-popular). But he - and others like him - are supplying these young intelligent blacks with something they desperately need, and common sense goes out the window. It is almost religious ... I don't mean he is at all like God (God forbid!), but they are putting him (or Zuma) in the place of God, and the ANC is their church. Touching either is sacrilege in their minds.

All this has nothing to do with reason or IQ or common sense. It goes much deeper than that. I've seen the same thing in whites who believe that Nature is Good, and get spitting mad if you tell them they are being silly. And they are not thick, far from it. But they need desperately to believe in something, anything.

False gods are sensitive about their reputation, too, and for good reason. Zuma claimed he was still trying to pay off the bond on this mansion of his (poor underpaid man). Now I hear that the Sunday Times investigated and found there was no bond registered. Is it possible he was lying?
