Thought it was strange that Fallon was riding at Newmarket tonight, with him heading to the states for rides tomorrow..

After his 1st 3 winners i realised why (:P)

Cant find a UK winner for love or money..
Backed 2 yesterday at 12/1 and 9/1,then went of at 6/1 and 7/2..
Not a placing and didnt lay any back..
Doing 2 more today and if no return will just do SA.
Hamza 3-20 Newmarket 25/1 ew
And Masked Marvel 2-30 Newbury, see they have a pacemaker in the race..

Cant beleive Masked Marvel is 5/1....should be favourite.
Brown Panther likes cut in the ground and Mount Athos although improving has been running at a lower
level...

Ryan Moore has seven very interesting rides at Newbury today, this is his assessments on all of them...

13:30
Victrix Ludorum
Is by Invincible Spirit out of a Sunday Silence mare from the family of Generous and Imagine, and is a half-sister to several winners. I don't know much about her other than that and the fact that I gather the stable rate her quite highly, and they are not shy of sending some of their better juveniles here first time up, such as Montiridge. But there is another Invincible Spirit newcomer here in the Cheveley Park entry Tantshi and she looks a likely sort, as does Bated Breath and Cityscape's half-sister Abated. Supernova Heights and Talqaa both ran with promise in a Goodwood maiden, and all in all this looks a pretty hot maiden, as you'd expect at Newbury at this time of the year.

14:00
Ninjago
I didn't think the Chepstow maiden that Ninjago won was up to much - the three horses that have come out of the race haven't done much - so I am surprised that Timeform only have him with only between 3-7lb to find with three of these. And the other horse, Excess Knowledge, did it well at Sandown last week. So it is a tight and competitive race. But Ninjago did it well first time up, hinting at much more to come, should be suited by the extra furlong and is quite well regarded, so let's see. It could be that the filly Just The Judge, a course and distance winner, is the one to beat but this is clearly wide-open.

14:30
Mount Athos

I said before he ran at Newmarket first time up that Mount Athos "could be anything" for Luca this season. But what he is now after two highly impressive wins is a potential Melbourne Cup winner if he gets the Group win he needs here to be eligible for that race. There is little doubt that he was tremendously impressive in winning a York handicap by 4 lengths off a mark of 108 last time, and that form doesn't leave him with much at all to land this Group 3 race. Indeed, Timeform have him with only 1lb to find with Brown Panther, and 3lb in hand of Masked Marvel, Modun and Harris Tweed. Brown Panther is probably the one to beat after his good seventh in the King George and the longer trip should suit him, but he doesn't excite me in the way that Mount Athos potentially does. I'd be hopeful that Mount Athos could book his Australian plane ticket here.

15:05
Strong Suit

Even after the withdrawal of Chachamaidee yesterday morning, this still looks a pretty competitive race. If you are looking at this season's form then you have to give a big shout to impressive Hackwood Stakes winner Soul, who I think would have gone close had he run in the July Cup. And I respect anything that John Oxx sends over, so don't rule out Alanza. But on the best of his form then Strong Suit is the one to beat here. He gave Chachamaidee 5lb and a 4 ½ length beating over 7f at Newmarket last year, and he would prove very hard to beat on that form, or indeed some of his other 2011 efforts. He has been below form this season, and didn't take up his intended engagement in the Gheest recently because of the soft ground, but if he gets good ground or better here then he will have trip and conditions to suit. And he is a course winner, too. Let's hope he can put his best foot forward today, because he has a favourite's chance if so.

15:40
Jacob Cat
s
Is 7lb higher than when I rode him to win at Sandown and he was a beaten favourite at Goodwood last time. Those are the negatives. But the positives are that he may just have been feeling the effects of his Sandown run just six days earlier last time, and that wasn't a poor run anyway from stall 14, beaten just a length. To my eye, I would say that he is no better than fairly treated off 92 - though I think Hughesie thinks he is well-handicapped still - but this is a horse that travels and quickens, and that will always stand him in good stead. So he clearly has a leading claim.

16:20
Glossy Posse
I look up against it here on the evidence of her Folkestone third. In fact, that is something of an understatement as the likes of Jillnextdoor and Malilla probably have two stone in hand of me, and there are also some very well-bred and well-entered newcomers in here, such as William's Floating Along.

16:55
Commend

I honestly don't think a mark of 84 is warranted on the form that he has shown to date; after all, the horse that he beat at Ripon last time finished last at Salisbury on Thursday. But, being equally truthful, I think he has the potential to be competitive off that mark. He did no more than was expected of him at odds of 2-5 in a Ripon maiden last time. But he did well - he was gelded before that victory, so perhaps that has seen him improve - and the step back up to 1m2f here will be a help, too. I'd be hopeful of a bold showing, though there a couple in here I'd be wary of. In particular, I think Valiant Girl is better than she showed at Goodwood.
Give everything but up!

Little Mike makes all in Arlington Million

BY NICHOLAS GODFREY 11:59PM 18 AUG 2012

Report: USA, Saturday

Arlington Park: Arlington Million (Grade 1) 1m2f, turf, 3yo+

ALLOWED his own way up front under US champion jockey Ramon Dominguez, the Dale Romans-trained Little Mike thwarted a strong European team with a comfortable all-the-way victory in the Arlington Million in Chicago on Saturday.

The Luca Cumani-trained Afsare got upset in the preliminaries before snatching second in the 30th running of the storied contest, highlight of the Arlington International Festival of Racing.

Visitors had claimed all three supporting features via I'm A Dreamer and Bayrir, who both claimed Grade 1 victories, and Jakkalberry, who won the inaugural American St Leger.

In the main event, Venezuelan-born Dominguez, winner of the last two Eclipse Awards, was allowed to completely dictate matters on Little Mike, who led by five lengths at one stage, despite setting only a measured pace.

Winner of the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic on Kentucky Derby day, the five-year-old was returned just short of a 4-1 shot as he cruised home to score by a length and a half from Afsare, with the John Gosden-trained Colombian dead-heating for third with popular local hope Rahystrada.

"He was running very comfortable," said Dominguez. "Turning for home when I decided to let him run, he beautifully started opening up. He galloped home like a freight train."

Winning trainer Dale Romans added: "Nobody thought he could go a mile and an eighth. So a little different pace scenario, when you go three-quarters in 1:15 he's going to be hard to catch."

Afsare's jockey Kieren Fallon said he was well aware of Dominguez's attempts to steal the race from the front. "I know what was happening - and there was nothing I could do," he said.

"I had to ride my horse to win, and there was no pace. His antics didn't cost him - he just acts like a spoiled child sometimes and didn't want the gate. He has a big race in him."

Colombian's rider William Buick was taking third place for the third time on the card after similar placings for Zuider Zee and Joviality.

"He probably ran the race of his life," he said. "We're certainly happy. You'd like to win every time you go out there but I'll settle for what I got today. What an honest race he ran."

Of the other overseas visitors, Crackerjack King finished fifth, with Treasure Beach sixth and Wigmore Hall seventh.

Colm O'Donoghue was happy enough with Crackerjack King. "He really needed firmer ground but he ran a very solid race," said the jockey, who had earlier ridden Jakkalberry to victory. "He handled the ground good and travelled well but he really needs firmer going to fire his best shot."

Jamie Spencer, who won last year's Million with Cape Blanco, suggested Treasure Beach had lost his race as soon as the stalls opened. "He got squeezed out at the start and the race was over after that," he said.
