Thanks always been a bone of contention, a punter trading eg a game of tennis can have many wins and losses during a game but the end profit or loss is what should be the taxable or figure for commission, not easy situation and imagine could become very complicated?

Can't see Betfair continuing to fund punters tax?..........that surely will be brought into line.
I must admit that I was always surprised (pleasantly) that fees were always levied on the nett result ,and not by transaction!

Bad example from my side Rob, in the winning of the match market, yes no matter how many transaction during the game you will be levied by the end result.
Was considering sets etc but they are individual markets, so maybe not that complicated, have got a bit rusty, been a couple of years!

Dave,I would imagine that was why it became necessary to charge a "premium" on traders................I remember one Sunday having about 20 trades on the US Masters and it wasn't going well for me...........suddenly there was a window to square up..................took it,and ended up paying nothing for all those transactions.

most of the public want free and open markets so why so much resiatance to this international company? seems strange - maybe we have our only little huddle who are a bit scared of healthy competition

But on the other end of each of those transactions could be a net winner and net loser. The losers did their money, the winners won and paid comm and you facilitated comm for betfair even though you might have ended up square,
You should get profit sharing for the risk of exposure!
The example above were the guy lays 200/200 and backs 240/200 to win 40 and pay 5%=2,
conceivably it's not just two people so someone else also won the first 200 and paid 10, and yet another someone else had to lose 240 to fund the 200(-10) and the 40(-2). If BF had to pay the Aussies 6, it probably came from 12, not from 2.

There is also quite a lot of money being matched at 1.01 with in run betting, and Betfair having to pay 1.5% turnover tax on the bets, and collecting a miniscule amount from those that back and lay at the 1/100.

Obviously the permutations/possibilities are endless...............but not often the benefit of the doubt is given to to "user".
Imagine if TAB restricted their take-out to nett result9( ie refund 20%-25% on all losing bets.......lol)
Not too many areas of business that I am aware of,that fees are not charged on a "per transaction" basis, particularly seeing as they have been making noises about the bigger business players paying more to use the platform!
Fine while income(ie fees) are taxed/levied only but a complete "turnover" basis will surely be passed on to users?
