Most interesting Garrick, could u enlighten on where most of the stakes for the Feature races are derived, OK we know INVESTEC Epsom Derby but others like Guineas, Oaks, Royal Ascot etc.
Also how much does gate attendance contribute to stakes.

tracks rule their own destiny and find their own sponsors..
Investec`s deal is with Epsom
The tracks get money from the levvy but not enough, our shops put 15% of our profit into the levvy...

Thought you may be interested in the training costs and rebates offered in Singapore: (current exchange rate: $S = R6.30)
Just a couple of figures for you to look at:
Fixed monthly training fee: $2500-00
Additional monthly costs eg vet/farrier etc $300-00 (all veterinary, farrier costs are charged at cost)
Prize money:
Class 1 $125 000
Three year old Hcp $65 000
Class 5 (the lowest rated race here) $35 000
Minimum stake for any graded race $150 000
Owners percentage 48.25%
Owner's rebate of $900 per runner paid:
Number of starters Qualifying horses
10 horses or less All except 1st and last
11 or more starters All except 1st and last 2 placing
This rebate gets deducted off the owner's monthly account so should your horse run at least twice a month you immediately have $1800-00 off your training bill leaving you with an approximate bill of $1000-00 per horse
In a recent survey done by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities, Singapore ranked second in the world behind the UAE in respect of stakes compared to owners' expenses. With 100% being representative of all costs incurred being covered by stakes offered, UAE (who race for only 4 months of the year with most of costs being covered by Dubai Racing) ranked 165% and Singapore 126% (this figure is based on expenses without taking into account the owners' rewards scheme so it should be higher). Third on the list is Hong Kong on 101% with Australia way down on the list in 10th position at 40%.
That will give you all something to think about and remember that ownership in Singapore is open to everyone.
Happy racing this weekend!

The question for our 'lot' is why is it so difficult to learn from Singapore and introduce rebates here?

Interesting thing about the Prize Money vs Stakes comparisons is that those countries without Bookies, eg tote monopolies, are top of the list. My 2010 figures show -
1. UAE - 170%
2. Korea - 170%
3. Singapore - 135%
.
.
15. South Africa - 45%
16. Australia - 43%
.
.
23. Great Britain - 21%
@ Debbie
1) What are the criteria for us to send a horse to Singapore? Waiting list? Type of horse? Raced/unraced? (One of my Owners who reads this site would like to know.)
2) How strong is the Racing there, compared to ours, on average?
1. UAE - 170%

3. Singapore - 135%

Hi
The requirements to race here are pretty simple. Unraced horses must be in Singapore before turning 4. Raced horses can not be older than 6 and must have a minimum international rating of 55. Obviously Northern Hemisphere horses are afforded the weight allowance as per international standards.
The standard of racing here is comparable to SA and based on their performances would hold their own anywhere in the world (with minimum participation in Dubai we raced with considerable success).
Added to this we have 1400 horses competing for a stakes pot of $54 million ( Singapore dollar). We race 95 times a year programming approx. 950 races and haven't lost a meeting since 2006 - the only one in 10 years when the fibre sand literally washed away.
We are currently upgrading the entire grandstand to the tune of $100 m and covering the parade ring. The Owners' level is complete and I hope to post some photographs soon to give you an idea of the amazing facilities.
The training facilities are superb as is the newly built veterinary clinic ( we have 8 vets employed by the Club) . There is a swimming pool for horses and a second one is being built to accommodate the increased horse population.
If you need any additional information please feel free to email me on Debra_ hawkins@ turfclub.com.sg.
Have a good weekend's racing.
