Pirates, I cannot have it at all, the selling of this magnificent course and Training centre. What's needed is a compromise, a model which will allow further or fuller utilisation of the facilities and a small portion of the unused land, to generate ongoing income, whilst being horse and racing friendly.
But, when the GC board has had as many changes as it has, over the last few years, this becomes too daunting a challenge, this thinking out of the box. But, as the financial pressure increases, the selling of Clairwood is the easy way out. This model will be found in any book for dummies.... This model puts an end to having to loan money to meet commitments and having to ask a director to assist with a few bar towards cash flow...
KZN Racing is either sustainable or it is not. This sudden cash flow boost will probably result in a more laid back approach..... and an even bigger problem when the money runs out.....
To me, the GC members voted for the WC/KZN divorce on the following grounds -
1)WC members were unhappy with receiving the short end of the stick from KZN. They wanted a new partner, so that their Racing could develop, go forward etc.
2)KZN members were told that WC was losing them R7M per annum. KZN members, in effect, voted to retain same R7M per financial year.
And the divorce went through.
Now, I am confused. Simply because I must then wonder at how bad the KZN financial situation must actually be, if an injection of R7M per annum is NOT ENOUGH ? ! And if that IS the case, then the proceeds from the sale of Clairwood are actually already gone and todays troubles are tomorrow's nightmares.

Yeah it sounds like the proposed Clairwood sale money has already been allocated before the sale has even taken place.....talk about counting chickens......heard of a shotgun marrage....well now the same gun may be used to stop the divorce....and all the kings men will have to put it back together again....
