A few years ago when Rail Link won, I think there were six or seven runners. It is highly unusual, though.

I doubt it. We don't have the horse population to justify it, I'd reckon.
It would be fun, though.
Speaking of 1941, I have seen old footage of one of the war time Arcs. Good crowd in, and loads of Nazis strutting around in full uniform like they owned the place. Which they sort of did, but fortunately not for long. It was all a bit surreal, but one can't let a small matter like a war get in the way of important things, like the Arc, a race whose name took on a particular irony at the time. I wonder how many of those jackbooted b#stards realized that the Arc was introduced shortly after WW1 to celebrate the Allied victory (and hence the German defeat).
Rail Link won in 2007, I think. He was owned by Khalid Abdullah and might have been ridden by Pasquier, but I'm not sure. I do remember the small field, though.

It was 2006, and that was the year the Japanese horse Deep Impact finished third but was disqualified for testing positive. Not a bright move from Soumillon - Shirocco finished stone last. It happens to the best...

Rail Link was trained by Andrew Fabre and never raced again afterwards. Now at stud, and has had a few runners that I've seen.

Got my seat booked at the Shongweni club in front of the tv already. As long as the top 3 run it will be a great race.

The Japanese horse was 9/4 favourite, according to Racing Post.

Should be red-hot ... but can JJ win? I notice he's had no prep race. Maybe the Clan can enlighten me but do older horses need more prep races than younger (but experienced horses) before a big one?
As a general rule I mean. I guess I'm extrapolating but I do notice the older I get the harder it is to get/keep fit, ha ha!
