every punter in cape town knew the quality of horses on display on sunday so lets ask ourselves why didnt they come to the track in their millions on sunday????as for mr jooste it is his freedom of choice whether he goes and watches rugby in cape town or goes to watch happy land ing win a group one and the same day to see delago delux win the nursery and also have a host of other feature race runners...punters have that choice as well whether to go down to their local bookies outlet stay home in comfort or go to the course and get treated like shit with crap facilities ...remember punters dont have access to private boxes and 6 star treatment ...

Pirates i think his point was there was no media hype created which would have encouraged much better course attendance. I stay in Cape Town and i must admit the marketing of racedays is a joke

blueyonder001 you are wrong !!! Unless you spell marketing N-O-N-E-X-I-S-T-A-N-T !!! This is actually a scary thread as it seems we all have different English. The same post is interpreted differently by different people ... I is dazed and confused.

pirates...i shouldn't even be responding to this topic...because its no skin of my back...who attends or for that matter who doesn't attend the race tracks as owners...but my point here is...what difference does it make to u if he doesn't need the thrill of seeing his flesh (horse that is..not talking of him taking part in race 13)...pass the post first.....but what we must remeber...owners like marcus jooste....uses racing as tax writeoffs...for them its a business...irrespective of what wins...i think sometimes its more of a headache...if he wins too many races..(tounge in cheek)..no person in the right frame of mind would go to australia and buy a 4 million rand horse and come race it in south africa for a R40 000 stake cheque...its all about write offs...i can guarantee u 1 thing..we probably get more excited about his horse winning than he does...so pirates...the bottom line is ...everybody is different...and everyone gets a different kick out of winning...for some its the thrill and to some its just mundane

I may be naive or just plain stupid - but if it's only about the tax write-offs, why employ the top trainers in the country? Why fly a top jock all around the country to ride the stars? Why send the 'failures' to Kimberley to earn? Must be more to it than purely tax-writeoffs?

that in itself is a tax writeoff....why should i engage a trainer who charges R 3500 /MONTH....surely it makes more sense engaging only the bestand paying top dollar...but frodo i think u own horses...would u spend a million rand and race for peanuts..does that make any sense?

Now I understand - the more you spend, the more you can write off - and no for sure it does not make sense spending millions and racing for peanuts - well that's if you're racing to win :
