Cape Racing - Whats Going On!

I have heard a rumor the GC sold Cape Racing to P. The person telling me said that GC's losses were all made in the Cape and that KZN was actually very profitable, he added that with the Cape gone stakes in KZN are likely to increase substantially.

Any truth to the rumor?

I thought Mr H Adams is the current chairman of GC. Being a Cape boy I don't think he would want to split from the KZN gravy train. the taking away of Kzn's wednesday racing slot will prove to be very damaging over time. I think its just another rumor.

Well another doing the rounds is markus jooste moving 100 horses to pe, byron forster the current asst to yogas govender in kzn will be taking out his own license and will head up the jooste operation in pe, on a sadder note I also heard that c laird is down 48horses.

I've heard the same last Friday night from very reliable sources. I feel sorry for Charlie but for Markus it would make financial sense considering the nos of horses he has in training.

I also think that Charles Laird wanted to move to Durban for some time, which he has now done, and couldn't get a zillion boxes even if he wanted to still train a zillion horses.

well does he magic? Not really connected to laird but I'd think that not many trainers would like the drop from 150 horses to 48

He was only allocated 55 as far as I am told. Would probably have had to buy a place to get more.I think you right
Magic.Did he really want to stay that big? Am sure he doesnt need the aggravation or the money.

Craig - especially the aggravation! Seriously, I think Charles personally wanted to scale down, but of course there is probably more to the whole story than just that.
