The fact is that Fairview is built on a swamp, so when there is a rainy season they can't race.
There have been three dry years in PE, so there is no problem at the moment. Arlington is built
on a sandune, so there is almost never a rain factor there. A few years ago meetings were often
switched from Fairview to Arlington when there had been rain.
One of the licence conditions imposed by the Eastern Cape Gambling Board when Phumelela took
over East Cape Racing about 10 years ago is that they had to maintain 2 race courses in Port
Elizabeth.

I suppose we should be grateful that they don't plan to just split Fairview down the middle and call that " 2 courses " as they did at the Vaal!
