Horseracing workers in Italy went on strike on Monday to protest against what is being done to solve the problems affecting the sport.
According to the unions representing staff from several different areas of the racing industry, the five-day strike has been prompted by the absence of real and effective intervention from authorities in dealing with a general decline in the racing industry.
Protests will be held in a number of places, including outside the Rome headquarters of UNIRE, Italian racing's independent governing bodyunder the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
The trade unions have also asked for meetings with parliamentary groups to discuss the plight of their members in particular and the racing industry in general.

This happens on a fairly regular basis. The usual result is that a lot of bullsh!t is spoken, a few vague promises are made - and everything goes back to being precisely as it was.
Sound familiar?

The time difference might kill that idea off, Hibs. However, unexplored avenues from more "friendly" time zones include Germany, Scandinavia, Belgium, Slovakia, India, Malaysia, Austria, Swizerland, Hungary, Spain, Russia, Poland......they all have racing.
Be very afraid.
