Gitano Hernando team eyeing Breeders' Cup bid
GITANO HERNANDO, who won a Group 3 at Dundalk on his return from an enforced break, could skip the Champion Stakes for a crack at the Breeders' Cup should the ground at Newmarket come up too soft.
Off the course since March dueto a splint, the Marco Botti-trained four-year-old is being lined up for an international campaign.
"Initially we were disinclined to travel Gitano before sending him to Dubai as the World Cup has been the main goal," said Botti. "After seeing him run so well in Ireland, and expending so little energy in winning this Group 3, we all felt we would not be doing the colt justice if we did not run him somewhere at the highest level now he is primed for a top effort."
"If we have to pass on the Champion Stakes, the plan would be to work the colt a couple of times on the fibresand at Southwell and determine after that if we would point for the Classic or the Turf.
"Barry Irwin of Team Valor International thinks the ten furlongs on the dirt would fit the colt better than the 12 furlongs on the turf, but is keeping an open mind until after seeing how the colt breezes at Southwell. His trainer, at the moment, favours the Turf."
