What the NZ match showed is that we lack depth beyond the core of 6-8 players...pray that none of them get injured and pray that we do not chase...
I'll watch from the knock-out stages as too many non-match-ups in group stages...top 8 should all get through to knock-out stages after maybe, at most, 1 or 2 near misses / scares from the associate countries...
Win three knock-out matches and win the World Cup...Australia can do that, India can do that, Pakistan (dependent on which team pitches up) can do that, New Zealand cannot do that and South Africa can only do that if batting first in all three...

You need to win your last 3 games to win the World Cup. NZ, Australia, India, Pakistan, SA, SL and the WI can all win 3 games in a row against each other.
Forget the build up, this is the July of cricket.
What I want to see in this World Cup from SA is:-
Faf to take ownership and bat at 3 and play to the conditions.
Riley to bat after AB and have a license with Miller to express themselves.
Parnell bowling full and swinging the ball i.e. he needs a coaching session from Wasim Akram.
Ditto for Abbott.
I am sure that should we qualify, we have a good chance to winning 3 in a row.
We have 3 or 4 batsmen who are capable of getting three hundreds in a row.
If we bowl well, we will have a good world cup.
I will be going high on individual batsman once I have seen that there is limited movement off the pitch.

At last somebody (Russel) actually discussing the game instead of just worrying about having a bet and eating. Hamilton will swing as will Auckland. Cant see any of the South Island wickets swinging (more dew if anything else as the summers come to an early end on the South Island especially Dunedin and Queensland) I don't want to burst your bubble but the Proteas wont win the World Cup.

I am not saying that SA will win the WC.
I am saying that with 3 matches to go, they will have as good a chance as anyone else.
In fact, on any given day, our top 5 are better than any other top 5 (not batting but match winners). I also think a few bowlers are going to get man of the Match awards.
Who do you fancy CnC to win the WC?

One of the following three teams
Australia. Only home pressure can get the better of them. 1992 they were shocking. Most host nations have fared poorly. New Zealand. They will go into the tournament with a nothing to lose attitude which may well work for them. Brendan McCullam, Williamson and Taylor will score enough runs to keep them alive. Boult is a very very good bowler up front and at the death.
Pakistan. If they turn up then there is no side that can touch them. They won it in 92 and that will be drummed into them. Afridi can win a match on his own and there are plenty of other match winners in that line up.
Afghanistan will be the surprise team. I am convinced that they can win at least 2 games
I for one cant wait and will be watching most of the matches.

Just watched a programme on cricket in Christchurch after the earthquakes. Sad to know that they will never use Lancaster Park again for either cricket or rugby. The ground sits on a swamp thus the earth is very loose and it would be far to dangerous for spectators.

Anybody who believes that the perennial chokers can or will win the world cup must have been in a coma for the last 15 years or has far too much money to waste on the bet or more than likely, know fanny all about cricket and the psychology that goes with it.
